Time 4 Felt Review and Giveaway*CLOSED*

When Awnya Boam, owner of Time 4 Felt contacted me about a Product Review and Giveaway, I was excited and nervous at the same time. This is my first Product Review, so I was a bit intimidated. I want to give my readers honest opinions about the products that I review.

When I received the Story Time Felt in the mail, I was extremely excited to see what we had in store for us! We received The Frog Prince which included 10 Felt Pieces and one story. We also receive a sheet, with four scenes from the story. In which we were able to color and cut out the scenes to put them in the order that they occurred in the story.

That night, during our nightly bedtime ritual, Ki'Nani sat in my lap as we rocked in her rocking chair. I pulled out our Story Time Felt and read her the story, while she played with the felt pieces.

Over the past week, she has enjoyed playing with her felt pieces. I love that they are what I like to call, "Ki'Nani Proof". My daughter has managed to break, tear, shred, shatter, and dent most of the items in our home. My little book worm has left her mark in each one of her books by ripping at least one page. But, with the felt pieces, they have survived. And trust me, she has tested them!

Time 4 Felt products aren't just fun! They encourage sensory play and help build developmental skills. This Finger Play Fun set includes: One Finger Play fun glove, One Finger Play Fun CD, 56 felt figures, Velcro and 34 poems.

Quiet books are always a hit with both parents and kids! They are perfect for car rides, church, and quiet time. This Bug Activity Book includes: 5 pages, 43 felt figures, instructions for assembly and use, bug facts and information.

For your little Princess, I recommend the Princess Fairy Tales and Stories; which includes: 6 Fairy Tales, a mounted castle background, literature and coloring pages and a castle tales CD.

For your little Prince, I recommend the Pirate Cove Felt Board and Activity Set; which includes: a Mounted Pirate Island Background, 71 felt figures, Instructions, Pirate cards for game, Activities and a List of books you can get from the library.

So, you've gotten a taste for what Time 4 Felt has to offer and now you have the chance to get your hands on one of these fun yet educational products! Time 4 Felt is giving one lucky winner a Mystery Story Set valued at over $14.00!

Surf Shelf

It's a lazy Sunday here at my house...we had friends over last night for a BBQ. Today we are just lounging around, so I decided to browse the internet and I found this awesome product! It's called a Surf Shelf and it allows you to workout and use your laptop at the same time!

I was just thinking the other day that I needed something like this. You should have seen me in our gym on Friday. I brought my laptop upstairs and hooked it up to the tv. I had my mouse on the elliptical screen, so that I could workout and check my emails at the same time!

Hey, I'm a busy mommy! I am only allotted an hour and a half of uninterrupted bliss while Ki'Nani is taking her nap. Which means, I have to choose whether to workout or answer emails and process orders. Obviously, the latter wins.

But now that I have found the Surf Shelf, I can do both at the same time!

It's Potty Time

The Parent Blogger's Network and Pull-Ups want all of the dirty secrets on Potty Training! It's an inevitable chapter in every parents life...potty training. Potty Training will test a parents patience and stomach.

Our Potty Training chapter is still a work in progress. Two months ago, when Ki'Nani turned 18 months, we decided to introduce the Potty Chair. She was already showing signs; going into her tent and tunnel system to use the bathroom in peace. So we made a big deal about this Potty Chair thing, we took her to the store and let her pick out her Potty Chair. It was between the Pink Princess Potty Chair and the Elmo Potty Chair that talks (in English and Spanish).

Ki'Nani chose Elmo. We brought him home that night and put him right in the middle of the living room floor. At first, Ki'Nani just wanted to make him talk, then she graduated to putting her toys inside the potty portion. After about a week of using Elmo as a storage unit for her toys, David showed Ki'Nani how to sit on him.

Soon, David and I were on the lookout for Ki'Nani making her face. You know the face...the poopy face. If we saw 'the face', it was a mad dash to pick her up and sit her down on the Potty Chair. Finally, Ki'Nani started sitting on the Potty Chair and doing her business.

Now, Elmo can be found right next to mommy and daddy's Potty Chair in the bathroom and Ki'Nani always let's us know when she has to go 'poop, poop'. Of course, she always has to go 'poop, poop' on Elmo after she has already gone in her diaper...but it's a great start!

We aren't really pushing the Potty Training idea too much, Ki'Nani has always been the type of child that will do things at her own pace. But the thought that one day I will never have to change another diaper makes me grin from ear to ear!

Three Steps To A Well-Behaved Toddler

I remember when I was about 6 months pregnant; I was out shopping for Nursery Décor. While I was standing in line at the checkout counter, this little girl dressed in a Ballerina Outfit, complete with sparkles in her hair; threw herself next to my feet. While she pounded the ground with her fists she screamed " I want that dolly NOOOOW!"

I have to admit, I backed away from her. I wanted to make sure that no one in that store confused that little diva as my daughter! I looked around for her parents and my eyes landed on the man and woman whose faces were as red as a tomato. All eyes were on these poor parents, everyone wondering what their next move would be. The mom quickly handed the doll back to her still sobbing daughter and the dad quickly apologized stating; "I don't know what has gotten into her, she never behaves this way."

I remember looking down at my protruding belly and telepathically telling my baby that she would never pull a stunt like that. My little girl was going to be the picture of perfection, always well behaved. Luckily she heard me, well sort of. I have to admit, my husband and I look at each other every day and remind ourselves how lucky we are. Ki'Nani is pretty much a go-with-the-flow kind of child, who loves to cuddle with mommy and daddy.

So you can imagine our confusion when one day, she decided it would be a good idea to slap mommy in the face. Then later that day, she got the bright idea to jump on couches, even after being told "No" many times. As parents, we understand that she is testing her limits. But how can we lead our children in the right direction, while still allowing them to make decisions on their own?

A child needs to spread his wings and experience autonomy, accomplishment, control and joy so long as his actions are safe, appropriate and responsible.

Building Character Skills in the Out-of-Control Child by CR Partridge, Ph.D

First, David and I need to find out why Ki'Nani is continually doing things that she knows are wrong. Christine Shuck, mother of two and owner of Creative Solutions states;
As inscrutable as they may seem, every child has a reason behind their behavior, and it is rarely with the specific intent to drive us insane. Toddlers instinctively seek to fulfill the following needs: Contact (attention from their parents/siblings/etc), Power (the ability to control some part of their lives – this is where fights over what clothes to wear begin), Protection (the instinct to survive – to eat, sleep, be safe), Privacy/Withdrawal (time away from others to be alone with their thoughts) and Stimulation (understanding gravity by dropping peas onto the floor, watching tv, etc) If we try to understand the reason for the behavior, if we attempt to understand what our children’s specific agenda is at the moment, then we can effectively and lovingly deal with the behavior in a more positive manner.

In our case, Ki'Nani is our only child and she receives quality one on one interaction with both David and I. We also make a point to spend time as a family throughout the week, such as; walking, gardening, playing with Ki'Nani's building blocks, singing and dancing...you get the point. But maybe she needs more or on the other hand, maybe she wants less. Step One on our journey will be to understand what it is that Ki'Nani is trying to communicate with us.

So what do you do when you've covered Step One? Hypothetically speaking, we have come to the conclusion that Ki'Nani jumps on the couch because she thinks it's fun. I can't blame her, it is fun! But also dangerous, which is why it isn't allowed. It may sound tedious but; "Consistency is key, immediacy is critical," says Andrew Adesman, MD who is Chief of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics at Schneider Children's Hospital in New York and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. Dr. Adesman is also the author of Baby Facts. I spoke with Dr. Adesman over the phone and we used Ki'Nani's situation as an example. David and I continually put Ki'Nani in time out, at first time outs were the worst thing that could happen to her, as time has gone on, she has found ways to entertain herself while she is in time out. Dr. Adesman recommends "quality over quantity". While Ki'Nani is in time out, Dr. Adesman suggested that we make it as boring as possible. Whether she sits or stands, we must not allow Ki'Nani to sing or dance, which is what she now does. Dr. Adesman also stated that after we have tried this, we can also try upping her Time-Out time from 90 seconds to 120 seconds. Step Two: Be Consistent

After Ki'Nani is in time out, we pull her aside, get down on our knees. So that we are at eye level with her, and explain why we put her in time out. For example, "Ki'Nani, jumping on the couch is dangerous and it is unacceptable, that is why you were put in time out." Obviously, she doesn't understand what I'm saying to her, so I then say, "No jumping on couch, it's dangerous." I may sound like I'm some sort of caveman, butI learned this language from Harvey Karp. Positive reinforcement is key; check out these awesome products that your children will love, Excited 2 Learn.

The third and final step, one that I came across time and time again is; schedule. I am known for my hatred towards clocks. If I had my way, we wouldn't have clocks and we would live our lives on our own schedule. If I had my way, the world wouldn't last a day. We as human beings thrive on schedules. I've never made Ki'Nani have a 'bed-time' or 'nap-time'. She takes a nap when she pleases and goes to bed when she pleases, which is why I am known to answer emails at 4am. This will be our most trying task, but David and I are ready to take on the challenge and get Ki'Nani on a schedule that works for our family. A few products I am excited to try are the Good Nite Lite and the Hippo's Bedtime and Morning Routine.

So let us recap:

Step One: Understanding
Step Two: Consistency
Step Three: Schedule

Sweet BonBon

Photobucket

It's Friday, and that means it's VGNO! Don't know what VGNO is? Visit Ann's Blog for more information!

Tonight we are drinking Chocolate Candy...yum! We are also playing a game to find out what our candy name would be. Mine? Sweet BonBon!

Other than partying it up with Ann and my fellow bloggers, I am spending this Friday night playing with K. I should be updating my website, but I'm going to be defiant today. :)

Happy Friday! Enjoy your weekend!

Hope In The Eyes Of A Child

The Parent Bloggers Network and Windex has challenged us to blog about our Best View. In my opinion, this is such a great topic! With the economy meltdown, many jobs lost, and more people than ever on government assistance. It is easy to have a pessimistic view on the world. Especially when you are directly affected by the current events.

So what is my best view? What makes me light up inside each and every day? One word, Ki'Nani; my daughter. I tell her each and every day that she is the best thing that I have ever done with my life. It's true, before her I didn't exist. I took up space in this world, just going through the motions of day to day life. If you have children than I am sure that you understand.

I have a responsibility to provide Ki'Nani with all of the best possible tools for her to succeed in life. I am raising a member of the 'next generation'. If I don't do my part to raise her with morals and compassion, than I have failed. From the first time I held her in my arms to each night when I rock her to sleep, I look into those beautiful hazel eyes and I realize that this little girl holds all of her love and trust in me and her daddy. Just by looking into her eyes; all of the worries of life, the troubles of the economy, and the suffering that surrounds our world is gone. When I look into her eyes, I see hope.

As you can see from this photo, she takes after her daddy!

I Heart Chrysler

I am such a girl, one day I hate them, the next day I love them! I bet you're probably thinking, "Would this chick just make up her mind already?"
Well, I have...for now!

Maybe they saw my blog post yesterday...you know, because the CEO's at Chrysler have nothing else to do but read my blog all day. But we received a phone call from our Car Guy, he has a pretty thick Irish accent, so I couldn't really understand what he was saying. We went into the car dealership today and he said that he had a car ready for us in the states. Apparently, someone had custom made it and decided to go with another car. It has the same features that we wanted, without the trailer hitch (totally NOT my idea in the first place), and the "Convenience Package". Really, we were paying $700 more for the AC controls to be on the steering wheel instead of the dash thingy?? Obviously, you can tell that hubby chose the options. All that I care about is the camera on the back bumper so that I don't back up into some poor old lady.

Well, because we were so inconvenienced, they knocked off about $2500 from our total car payment. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Plus, the car will be ready and waiting for us in Arkansas when we arrive!

In case you are wondering exactly which vehicle we chose...

...Ain't she a beauty?

Chrysler, you are on my short list today

D and I recently purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey. Fully loaded and customized, from the paint job to the coolers in the glove box. This is the first car that we have purchased, where we had control over what was and wasn't included in our vehicle.

Before we left for Disneyland, we received a call from our Car Guy and he says that we now have a VIN Number, and that Chrysler has started production on our vehicle! Of course we are excited! The car will be sent to Little Rock, Arkansas where we will pick it up when we return to the states.
With a price tag of just a little over $24,000 we decided to forgo our trips to Prague, Berlin, Rome, London, and Dublin so that we could pay as much money on our new vehicle before any interest was charged to us.

So today, I receive a call from our Car Guy; he says that Chrysler has just filed for bankruptcy and has stopped all production. Which means, we have to choose from what they have in stock.
I am assuming that with this bankruptcy comes more employees losing their jobs. Didn't we just bail Chrysler out?

I won't get into politics here. But, here is a note to Chrysler: If you can't get your stuff straight, I'd be more than happy to take over.

Half Way There

It has been a crazy few weeks! With our Disneyland trip, to working on new designs, to preparing for Craft Shows. Which brings me to the topic of this blog post, I have completed 210 hair bows, with 210 hair bows left to make by Friday. After this weekend, I plan on taking a much needed day off from work and all that it entails. Hubby asked me today, why I don't just take a week off. Well, I am being realistic here, I can't take a week off from work. I am a workaholic, which doesn't seem to bode well with strangers. I am commonly asked, "Don't you feel guilty spending so much time working and neglecting your husband and daughter?" I know you are wondering what I say in response, well I know what I'd like to say!

I'd like to say, "Would you ask my husband (who works just as many hours and I do), that same question?" In reality, they wouldn't ask him that question. Why? I don't know. Maybe because they don't classify what I do as 'work'. I could go on and on, and make a list for you, but I won't. I will just say that, women posses an enormous amount of strength that can not be labeled or defined.

And no, I don't feel as though I am neglecting my husband or my daughter, and I know that they would agree with me.

So my Tuesday Toot is; I have managed to keep my family and business happy, healthy, well-loved. Now, where's my cocktail? :)
